A 53 year-old female agripreneur, Fanny Kadzuwa has managed to turn her life around economically through farming.
Kadzuwa, based in Namputu Village in the area of Traditional Authority Chikumbu has been growing bananas since 1998.
She has indicated that through the venture, her life has undergone tremendous amount of change, earning her praise among her peers.
“Before 1998, I used to be one of those people who relied on handouts a lot because I believed farming is not something that can turn my life around,” said Kadzuwa.
But after noticing how other farmers were profiting from farming, Kadzuwa decided to venture into banana farming.
“Initially, I started with very few banana plants but it kept growing after I noticed the rise in demand,” said Kadzuwa.
Currently, her farm keeps an average minimum of 140 banana plants that gives her several tonnes of harvest.
“Through this venture, I have managed to construct a decent house, diversified and ventured into poultry as well as rearing cattle,” she added.
Her passion for banana growing has also caught the attention of other farmers who are currently learning the trade at her farm.
Kadzuwa has established several demonstration plots which she uses to teach other farmers the benefits of banana farming.
Elliott Smith Tandani, a trader based in Mchesi, Lilongwe has described Kadzuwa as a reliable supplier of bananas.
“I usually get banana supply from her because she never disappoints,” said Tandani.
