BAKING, CATERING EARNS FORM FOUR DROPOUT A LIVING

Angela Chibwe, who is a Form Four dropout from T/A Chilooko in Ntchisi District earns at least K450,000 per month from baking and cooking sales.

Angela’s journey started at Vovolelo Bakery and Café, Waterfront in Cape Town, South Africa from 2011 to 2018 where she worked as a pastry chef and got an opportunity to explore almost every aspect of baking and cooking

Chibwe, who is currently running her business in Blantyre near Catholic Institute Church and Zingwangwa, adds that apart from being recognised as a professional pastry chef, she also was also trained at Project Innovation Center (PIC) in 2022 where she learned, among others, soap making, komba, pinel gel, dish wash.

Chibwe said: “When I came back from the Republic of South Africa and after noticing that the food business is so marketable, I established my company called Golden Gift Bakery.

“However, with a focused expression, I was motivated and started baking scones, cakes, bread among others. Eventually, I also delve into the art of making classic desserts such as snacks and meals on many occasions. We are always up for an adventure because we have a track record of creating menus and delicious dishes.”

Lack of equipment such as a big oven, big mixer and a special place where she can reach out to more customers, are some of the challenges affecting Chibwe`s progress.

She has managed to employ five individuals to assist her in running the business.

“We will soon expand our food business reach and deliver to highly demanding places and bring your delicious flavours to every corner of the country. As the demand for our products is so high, our long-term plan is to employ more than 200 workers and become professional top talent in the industry to inevitably build a loyal customer base,” said Chibwe.

The Golden and Gift Bakery Managing Director, who is also one of the many Malawians who have been trained by Malawi’s well-known and successful entrepreneur, Kondwani Kachamba Ngwira, has encouraged young and up-and-coming bakers in the country never to give up on their dreams if they ever want to succeed in life.

“Personal growth is necessary and I would urge all aspiring entrepreneurs with a deep passion for baking and cooking to enhance their entrepreneurial skills and acquire valuable training to develop their business acumen. This is the only way to get equipped with knowledge on production costs, budgeting and effective management of your business in order to excel on the global stage,” she concluded.

Her unwavering dedication, her unrelenting passion for entrepreneurship and her innovative ideas have really ignited the spark that has fuelled her business to new heights.
