Asimenye Simwaka’s performance at the 2025 MDF Cross-Country Championship on Friday has left an indelible mark on the competition.
The race, held at the Mzuzu Golf Club, saw Simwaka break her record, completing the 10 km women’s race in 38:49.07, eclipsing her former best time of 40:36.17 set at last year’s event.
Reflecting on her victory in an interview with ProjectM Simwaka said she is excited about the achievement.
“I’m very happy with my performance today. I worked hard for this moment and breaking my own record is a testament to the effort I have put in over the past year. It feels great to see my progress.”
Her outstanding achievement was rewarded with a cash prize of K1million.
“Winning this prize means a lot to me. It’s not just the money, but the recognition of my hard work. I will use it to further improve my training and prepare for future challenges,” she said.
Fostina Mbemba, who finished in second place with a time of 39:22.58, also shared her thoughts on the intense competition
“It was a tough race, but I gave it my best. Asimenye was incredible today, and I’m happy with my performance. I will continue working hard and look forward to improving next time.”
Lydia Mwenechanya, who took third place in 41:26.46, praised the level of competition.
“The race was challenging, but I’m glad I made it to the podium. The athletes here are all very talented, and it’s inspiring to be a part of such a competitive event.”
The event was a true display of the athletes’ dedication and determination.
With Simwaka’s record-breaking run as the highlight, the competition showcased the rising standards of athletics.
