The Anglican Diocese of Southern Malawi (ADSM) has built a village clinic shelter in Kambuli Village in Traditional Authority Mabuka in Mulanje to the tune of K5.5 million.
Church Chaplain Fr. Kamandani Willard observed that women were facing problems in accessing Under Five clinic services; hence, the idea of building the shelter.
He said this development will ease the long distances women used to travel to access healthcare services.
“The coming of a village clinic has made it easier for the women who used to travel long distances and at the same time they will be able to do some other work in good time,” said Willard.
Group Village Headman Mabuka has thanked the Diocese for bailing out women in his area.
He said the under 5 children were being taken to far places where sometimes women were reporting to their homes very late.
“Sometimes women were failing to go for under 5 clinics because of the long distances,” he alleged.
Chisomo Moses, a resident of the area concurred with the traditional leader saying the facility is going to reduce maternal deaths as expectant mothers will be accessing services within the locality.
“We are going to have some services here rather than travelling far,” she said, adding that it will be a safer environment.
The project has been sponsored by Seed Sowers Trust through Tiakonde Project at a tune of K5.5 million.
