At just 24 years old, Aness Simon is making a name for herself in Malawi’s beverage industry with her unique handcrafted mocktails and cocktails.
Aness holds a diploma in Nursing and Midwifery, but her entrepreneurial spirit that is taking off after a season of unemployment, Aness began experimenting with Malawian flavours, using fruits from her backyard to create a wide range of variety of drinks.
Her menu boasts an impressive array of options, including the Nyanja, Mthunzi, Orera, Kwene and Kunowa.
Aness’s success goes beyond just her products. She is also been recognised for her business acumen.
“I started my business journey in 2019 and I have registered my business and work with high-end institutions such as GIZ, National Bank, Diplomat Car Hire and Centenary Bank, I was even recognised as one of 100 entrepreneurs making a difference in Malawi,” said Simon.
With operations now in both Lilongwe and Blantyre, Aness’s business is on the rise. But she’s not just focused on growth she also also committed to promoting Malawian heritage and preserving culture through her drinks.
“My goal is to be one of the leading beverage providers in Malawi while showcasing our country’s rich cultural heritage, I also plan to involve more local farmers in our industry and employ the youth,” said Simon.
The Ministry of Trade and Industry has taken notice of Aness’s achievements, praising her contributions to Malawi’s economic growth.
“Aness Simon’s success is a shining example of the entrepreneurial spirit that we aim to foster in Malawi, her commitment to promoting local flavours and supporting smallholder farmers aligns with our goals of promoting economic growth and development,” said Patrick Botha spokesperson for the ministry.
Currently, Aness employs four permanent staff members and five part-time workers. And with her business catering to a wide range of customers, from corporate leaders to event organisers, youth and students, it’s clear that Aness is on course to achieve her dreams.
