Airtel Malawi Plc has increased the Airtel Top 8 three-year sponsorship by 180 percent from K243 million to K655 million.
Speaking when unveiling the deal Airtel Managing Director Charles Kamoto said development is a big milestone and a massive contribution to the development of football in the country.
“The increase will not only elevate the Cup but also enhance the experience for players, teams, and fans alike. This is simply because this is the value that we believe football deserves in this country and i would like to extend my gratitude to our partners and stakeholders,, he explained.
Following the development, the package for the 2024 edition will be K180 million, this will also be increased to K220 million in 2025 and K255 million in 2026.
The winners will now pocket K30 million from K17.5 million while runners-up will get a doubled prize of K10 million.
Each participating team will also receive K2.5 million while player of the tournament and top-goal scorer will get K1.5 million and K1 million, respectively whereas last season individual awardees got K500 000 each.
In his remarks, FAM President Fleetwood Haiya has hailed Airtel Malawi for their investment saying it will go along way in transforming the sport in the country.
“We are grateful for the sponsorship as this will transform the game in the country. We look forward to continue growing with Airtel even with this new sponsorship as it is more competitive and rewarding,” he said.
This year’s competition will be played between September and November.
