Seven Heaven, Scorchers Humiliate Zimbabwe in Harare

A hat-trick from red-hot striker Temwa Chawinga, a goal each from Tabitha Chawinga, Chisomo Banda, Asimenye Simwaka and Sarah Mulimbika was enough to dismantle Zimbabwe 7-0 on Tuesday at the National Sports Stadium in Harare, Zimbabwe.

The result means the Scorchers have thumped the Mighty Warriors 9-0 on aggregate to progress to the next round of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games qualifiers.

The Scorchers went into the match with a 2-0 first leg advantage secured last Friday at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

That first leg scoreline provided a platform for Tuesday’s emphatic victory.

Scorchers Head Coach Lovemore Fazili praised his charges, calling the win a statement of intent.

“This win is a statement that the Scorchers are slowly becoming a powerhouse of Africa’s women’s football,” said Fazili.

Lilongwe-based ardent women’s football follower, Jestalla Kafumbu, was over the moon with the result.

“The Scorchers are the best team in Africa at the moment, they have made us proud,” said Kafumbu.

The Scorchers will now face Kenya in the next round of the Olympic qualifiers.
