SCORCHERS ARRIVE IN ZIMBABWE WITH EYES ON OLYMPIC QUALIFIER

Malawi’s women’s national football team, the Scorchers, have arrived in Zimbabwe ahead of Tuesday’s return leg of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games qualifiers, carrying a 2-0 advantage from the first leg.

The team secured the advantage after defeating Zimbabwe’s Mighty Warriors at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on Friday, putting themselves in a promising position as they pursue a place in the next qualifying round.

The Chawinga sisters, Temwa and Tabitha, were instrumental in the victory, scoring in the 33rd and 50th minutes respectively to give Malawi a valuable cushion heading into the decisive encounter.

The return fixture offers the Scorchers another opportunity to demonstrate their growth and consistency on the international stage as they continue to build on recent milestones in women’s football.

Malawi’s progress has been highlighted by the team’s qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, following their historic campaign at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The Scorchers will now look to turn their first-leg advantage into overall victory and secure progression to the next round of the Olympic qualifiers.
