Renowned urban musician Tay Grin has announced the launch of the “Roots of Malawi Culture Festival”, set for 17 October 2026 at Umodzi Park in Lilongwe.
The festival is designed to celebrate and preserve Malawi’s heritage through various art forms.
According to Tay Grin, the event will bring together traditional music, dance, fashion, storytelling and live performances all on one stage.
“This festival is about reminding Malawians, especially the young generation, where we come from and the beauty of our culture,” Tay Grin said.
Tay Grin has told ProjectM that the lineup will feature some of the country’s most celebrated artists including Keturah, Faith Mussa, Lawi and veteran musician Giddes Chalamanda.
He said no international artists will perform, to keep the focus entirely on local talent.
“We want to put Malawian artists first because there are so many gifted people here who deserve a big platform,” said Tay Grin.
Apart from music performances, organisers say the festival will also promote Malawi’s cultural heritage, create opportunities for creatives, boost tourism and help young people connect with their identity.
“When we showcase our dance, our fashion and our stories, the world sees Malawi differently and our youth see value in their own culture,” he added.
Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Alfred Gangata is expected to grace the function as guest of honour.
