President of Republic of Malawi Professor Arthur Mutharika has awarded National Women’s Football Team players K5 million each for their outstanding performance at the 2026 Morocco Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The Scorchers caused sensation by reaching the final on the debute appearance.
During a luncheon at the State House in Lilongwe, the First Lady Madame Gertrude Mutharika announced that the K5 million was a token of appreciation from the President Mutharika for the remarkable performance.
She said the team’s success has made the nation proud and overwhelming joy.
The First Lady led the nation to welcome the Scorchers from Morocco on Wednesday at the Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe.
On his part, Scorchers coach Lovemore Fazili appealed to Football Association of Malawi to arrange at least 10 friendly matches against top teams in preparation for the 2027 World Cup in Brazil.
He was speaking during the luncheon the First Lady hosted the team.
