NBS Bank has announced to reward K245 million for the 48-member Malawi Women’s National Football Team delegation following the Scorchers’ historic qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
In a statement, dated 12 August 2026, the reward recognises the players, technical team and support staff whose collective effort has carried Malawi into football’s biggest global stage.
NBS Bank Plc will credit each of the members’ accounts directly and is pleased to mention that each participating player will get K7 million.
“For NBS Bank, this is more than a reward. It is a celebration of national excellence and a reaffirmation of the Bank’s commitment to developing Malawian football, empowering talent and supporting initiatives that unite and inspire the nation,” reads the statement.
Commenting on the offer, NBS Bank Chief Executive Officer Temwani Simwaka said: “The Scorchers have demonstrated courage, resilience and an unwavering determination to succeed. This K245 million reward is our way of saying, you have made history, you have made Malawi proud, and NBS Bank stands with you as you prepare for the world stage. Beyond this reward, we will support the team with financial literacy and wealth management solutions to help them protect, manage and grow their earnings for the future.”
It says the initiative builds on NBS Bank’s long-standing investment in football development.
The Bank works closely with the Football Association of Malawi through sponsorship of key initiatives, including the National Division League Season 2 and the Charity Shield.
NBS Bank’s commitment is further strengthened by its parent company, NICO Group, which supports Ascent Academy and its work in developing young football talent. At least five Ascent players are part of the current Scorchers squad, demonstrating the importance of sustained investment in the football development pathway—from grassroots talent to international success.
The statement further reads: “As a proudly Malawian Bank, NBS Bank believes that when Malawians make history, their achievements deserve to be recognised and celebrated.
“As the Scorchers prepare to represent Malawi on the world stage, NBS Bank proudly stands with them—honouring history, investing in possibility and inspiring the next generation.”
