US R&B music icon Brian McKnight gave patrons a rare treat at Game Haven in Bvumbwe, Thyolo District during his historical maiden performance in Malawi dubbed Sunset in the Warm Heart.
Although the show held in the biting cold night of winter at an open arena delayed for six hours due to, among others, equipment hitches, patrons were treated to a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
One of the patrons, said the musician gave out a great performance.
“He is a great musician. We must understand why he insisted on having quality sound of his standards. The patrons, who waited for him to come on stage and perform, enjoyed,” he said.
The organiser of the show, Francis Phiri, fondly known by his showbizz name, Lawi expressed gratitude and satisfaction for McKnight’s performance and sarcastically took on pessimists.
“They said, he won’t come to Malawi. He did. They said he won’t perform. He did and all loved it,” he wrote on his Facebook Page.
During a media briefing on Friday after arrival, McKnight confessed that he had no idea of what Malawi as a country was about, but promised to perform to his best.
