Lilongwe-based Mpira M’mudzi Mwathu (MMM), a non-governmental sports organisation on Saturday hosted 20 Under-15 girls from Mthawira Primary School of Ntcheu on Sexual Reproductive Health.
The organisation, which nurtures youths in football development, held the sessions in partnership with United States Embassy in Malawi, according to a statement from MMM.
The school girls joined Mpira M’mudzi Mwathu Under-15 women’s football team for the sessions led by the organisation’s Director of Administration Alice Munthali and Schools Manager Linda Kasenda.
In her remarks, Alice Munthali said football could play a big role in driving behaviour change among adolescent girls.
“This is not just about football. We would like to create a safer environment in which girls can compete while at the same time focusing on their goals,” said Munthali.
The session left 14-year-old learner Bridget Maziko who visited Lilongwe for the first time.
“It’s my first time to visit Lilongwe. This has been made possible because of a combination of school and football. Some of my friends did not make it on this trip because they dropped out of school due to early pregnancies,” said the Standard Eight learner who sat for the 2026 Primary School Leaving Certificate Examinations.
Outgoing Peace Corps volunteer Carly Mollin, who facilitated the trip, described the sessions as motivating and inspiring.
“Some of these girls are visiting Lilongwe for the first time. I believe this interaction will leave a long-lasting impact on their lives,” said Mollin.
MMM stated that the girls’ stories proved that issues of Sexual Reproductive Health Rights need an honest discussion as they provided on Saturday.
