Posiye Gardens, a nursery for tree and fruit trees seedlings located at the late Major General Buxton Namwali (retired) Farm in Phodogoma Village in Thyolo led a tree-planting exercise at Matapwata Day Secondary School in the district.

The nursery donated 50 fruit-tree seedlings which was used as part of the exercise which coincided with the launch of Thyolo District tree-planting for the year 2026.

In his remarks, Posiye Gardens director Henderson Namwali said apart from encouraging students to take up tree-planting, they settled for Matapwata Secondary School because the school has no fruit trees.

“We would like to instil the spirit and culture in the students of the importance of conserving trees while they are still young. This will help to ensure that natural environment is restored,” he said.

One of the students Tabitha Jonam, who is Wildlife club chairperson, assured that they would take care of the trees until they grow.

“We would like to commend Posiye Gardens for donating these tree-seedlings,” she said.

Joram also said the trees would also provide vegetative cover and beautify the environment.
