A youth-owned company, Adventures with Colby (AwC) has carved a niche in Malawi’s tourism sector as one of the country’s leading travel and expedition companies.
The company has over the years developed expertise in hiking, trekking, camping and corporate team-building.
Established in 2018 by Colby Mughogho, AwC has grown from a one-man operation into a thriving expedition company, delivering immersive, tailor-made travel experiences that blend adventure with responsible travel.
Speaking in an interview, the company’s representative Violet Mzembe has indicated that the institution has established a footprint across the southern Africa.
“We are a company based in Malawi but with a large influence in the southern Africa, offering safari tours, mountain expeditions, cultural experiences and sustainable tourism development,” she said.
Mzembe said the company partners with local communities and international organisations to build campsites, map trails and promote eco-tourism.
“So our services span from luxury safaris to grassroots village tours, all designed to showcase the richness of Malawi and its neighbouring countries while supporting local livelihoods,” said Mzembe.
She said through this model, AwC is creating jobs for youth in rural areas, preserving cultural heritage and promoting inclusive, green economic growth.
“At AwC, we don’t just create holidays, we create safaris,” she added.
AwC’s exploits have caught the attention of the National Youth Council of Malawi (NYCOM) that has awarded the company a special grant to help it scale up its work.
“What this company is doing is in line with what the government of Malawi wants through the Malawi 2063 strategy which puts tourism [highly] on the agenda,” said NYCOM’S Executive Director Rex Chapota.
