Preparations for the planting of a fertilizer processing company at Dwangwa Illovo Sugar Estate by Ethanol Company Limited (ETHCO) in Nkhotakota are at an advanced stage with hopes of producing approximately 10,000 metric tons of fertilizer per year.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for ETHCO Lusubiro Chakaniza told Project M that the company will be solely manufacturing fertilizer from wastes from the company with zero destruction to the environment.
“One of the pillars in the baseline of our company is promoting sustainable activities that enhance environmental protection while also benefiting the surrounding community.
“We are also passionate to serve the community and offer alternative ways of improving their lives,” said Chakaniza.
Meanwhile, Wildlife and Environmental Society of Malawi (WESM) Chaiperson Victor Mangochi has applauded ETHCO for taking the environmental friendly approach.
He said: “ We will support all relevant authorities and organisations that consider the environment before implementing their activities.
“That is the most crucial action to take and ETHICO has showed us the capabilities of companies in protecting the environment.”
One of the country’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) is enhancement of clean energy with high productivity as stipulated in the Malawi 2063, the country’s development blueprint.
