Paramount Chiefs Receive Motorcycles in Independence Anniversary Gift

Luthando Holdings Limited, a local company has celebrated Malawi’s 61st Independence anniversary with a landmark donation of Yamaha YBR125 motorcycles to all Paramount Chiefs across Malawi.

The donation, valued at K128.8 million was announced on Sunday in Lilongwe.

Luthando Holdings Limited Managing Director Hendrix Lahar has told ProjectM in an interview that the donation is a token of appreciation for the crucial role traditional leaders play in preserving the country’s culture.

Lahar also commended traditional leaders, saying they are playing a huge role in uniting communities and fostering development.

“As Luthando Holdings Limited, we believe that strong and empowered communities are built on collaboration with their traditional leaders,” he said.

He expressed hope that the donation will keep Malawian societies strong and connected.

“These motorcycles are terrain-adaptable which means the chiefs can easily execute their duties even in communities where it is almost impossible to reach using a vehicle,” said Lahar.

Recipients of the donation include paramount chiefs Kawinga of Machinga district, Lundu of Chikwawa, Mbelwa of Mzimba, Kyungu of Karonga, Kaduya of Mulanje and Phalombe, Chikulamayembe of Rumphi and Gomani V of Ntcheu.

On Sunday, July 6th, 2025, Malawi celebrated 61 years of self-rule under the theme “Restoring Broken Foundations; Taking Malawi Forward”.

Celebrations marking the day, were held at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe where activities such as cultural dances, speeches and a football match spiced up the day.
