NBM to Host SMEs Day Expo in Lilongwe

National Bank of Malawi (NBM) plc says preparations for the bank’s first ever Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Day Expo slated for this weekend at the Gateway Mall in Lilongwe have been concluded.

The bank says it has come up with the initiative as part of celebrating SMEs Day which falls on June 27 every year.

NBM plc Marketing and Corporate Affairs Manager Akossa Hiwa said the expo has been organised in line with the bank’s broader strategy to support small-scale businesses.

Hiwa said the bank intends to go beyond normal banking and start offering small-scale business operators with connections, capital and visibility.

“This expo has been organised to bring together business operators, starting from small-scale business operators to well established business operators to allow them to interact and share notes,” she said.

Hiwa said the bank has also invited well-known local business operators to showcase their products and share knowledge with others, though she kept names of the businesses under wraps.

She said the bank was hoping for good results at the end of the expo.

“This event is about more than selling. It’s about confidence, connection and community. In other words, a space where small businesses can show the country what they are capable of,” said Hiwa.

The bank has since implored people to patronide the event.

Membership coordinator for Small Scale Business Operators Association of Malawi, Tennyson Mulimbula has expressed excitement with the initiative, urging small-scale business operators to showcase their products at the expo.

“We believe our members will use this opportunity to showcase what they are capable of delivering,” said Mulimbula.
