Organisers of this year’s Umthetho Cultural Festival say preparations for the event are at an advanced stage.
Chairperson for the festival’s resource mobilization committee, Charles Zimba has indicated that among others, the committee will soon launch a series of fundraising activities to source funds for the event which is slated for August 9, 2025 at Mombera Kingdom in Mzimba.
Zimba said in addition to engaging the corporate world, the committee will also organize “M’mbelwa Night” in all three regions of Malawi to maximize revenue mobilization.
“So, what I can confirm right now is that the festival is on and we are on schedule to meet the agreed budget,” he said.
Zimba called on potential partners to support the festival, saying it promotes unity and culture.
“I should make an emphasis here that these festivals are important because they promote unity, tolerance and peace, things that are important in the economic growth of a country,” said Zimba.
Nearly K320 million has been budgeted for this year’s event.
According to Zimba, this year’s festival is expected to attract guests from other countries including Kenya, Zambia, Tanzania, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
“Like always, we are expecting hundreds of guests from across the African continent and mostly guests from countries that have the a good number of Ngoni people,” he added.
President Lazarus Chakwera is also expected to attend the event.
