Maphunziro Quiz Project Boosts Education In Nkhata-Bay

The Maphunziro Mbambande Quiz Project introduced in 2024, is boosting education in Nkhata Bay, inspiring both learners and teachers to aim higher, work harder, and believe in inclusive learning.

Through collaborative efforts with the government, Healthwise, World Vision, and Zodiak Broadcasting Station, the project is making a significant impact in primary schools, encouraging learners to embrace academic challenges while promoting equality.

One of the most powerful examples is 12-year-old Philip Phiri, a Standard 4 learner at Chiomba Primary School. Despite being born with physical disabilities that limit his ability to write, Philip’s spirit remains unshaken.

His sharp memory and creativity make him an outstanding learner.
When his school was selected to participate in the Maphunziro Mbambande quiz competition, Philip was chosen to be the team’s cheerleader.

“I may not write like others, but I can cheer and inspire them to win. I believe we can all do something great,” said Philip, beaming with pride.

The quiz competitions have encouraged teamwork and determination among learners while pushing teachers to sharpen their delivery of lessons. Mrs. Catherine Kapanga, a teacher at Phillips’ School, explained: “The quiz has made us more focused in our teaching. We are not just preparing for exams, we are preparing learners to think critically and believe in themselves.”

By involving learners such as Philip, the project is sending a clear message that every child matters. It underscores the importance of equal participation, regardless of one’s physical ability or academic level.

The main aim of the Maphunziro Mbambande Quiz Project is to enhance the performance of learners in both lower and upper grades and improve teaching strategies across schools in the district.

Through healthy academic competition, learners are motivated to study harder, while teachers are encouraged to adopt more effective and engaging teaching methods.
