Malawi’s Female Tourism Minister Kamtukule Earns PhD

Malawi’s Minister of Tourism Vera Kamtukule has earned a Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD in Transformative Community Development from the Mzuzu University.

This follows her successful defence of her thesis, The Political Economic of Mining in Malawi: Governance, Community Participation and Labour.

The 43-year-old book author celebrated her feat by posting on Facebook Page.

Reads the post in part: “After years of wrestling with theories, battling deadlines and engaging countless intellectual duels (sometimes with myself), I have finally conquered the Everest of academia, successfully defending my PhD thesis.

“This wasn’t just about a research, it was a full-blown endurance test, featuring plot twists, existential crises and enough caffeine to power a small nation. But here I stand victorious.

“Now, I step forward not just with a degree but with the proof that no challenge is too great when passion, resilience and a little of stubbornness are in the mix.”

People from all walks of life joined her to celebrate her achievement.

US-based Malawian
Professor of Literature Carol Kautsire reacted with love, three hand claps and emojis complete with a message: “Yassssss, Queen! Well done! Doctor VK has a nice ring to it! Love, Prof. CK.”

Politician and human rights activist and former Cabinet Minister Timothy Mtambo said: “Well deserved, congratulations Cde Hon Sister. This is not a mean achievement Dr VK.”

On his part, veteran journalist Gracian Tukula wrote: “Sincere congratulations Dr VK. Yours is an amazing story.”

The 43-year-old minister studied at Zingwangwa Secondary School from where she got selected to Chancellor College now University of Malawi to pursue a Bachelor’s of Arts in Humanities.

She also did her Master’s of Science in Strategic Management obtained from University of Derby, UK as well as professional Diploma in marketing and post-graduate Diploma in land management.
