Lilongwe Youths Trained In Organic Farming

Over 20 youths from Areas 36 and 38 in Lilongwe have undergone training in organic farming, through an organisation called My Community My Responsibility.

The organisation has finished training the youths last weekend, a training which was being conducted in partnership with the Lilongwe City Council.

My Community My Responsibility executive director, Brian Khembo has indicated that the organisation organised the training with an aim of equipping the youth with knowledge in organic farming, a type of farming that uses locally available resources.

“The youths we have trained were carefully chosen because we wanted to train individuals who will be eager to implement what they have been taught,” said Khembo.

He said the training will help the youths overcome challenges rocking the agricultural sector which is currently battling skyrocketing prices in raw materials.

“Global catastrophes coupled with climate change effects have triggered progressive farmers to explore organic farming which does not require a lot of chemical products other farmers use,” said Khembo.

The organisation hopes the youths who have received the training will use the knowledge to evade climate change effects affecting farming in the country.

Madalitso Sainani, one of the trainees from Area 36 commended My Community My Responsibility for organising the training, saying he has gained valuable knowledge.

“I am a farmer and I believe the knowledge I have gained through this training will help me a lot,” said Sainani.
