Local educator cum-fashion designer, Namonde Sambakusi has turned her passion for fashion into a thriving enterprise.
Sambakusi, a holder of Bachelor’s of Arts in Humanities from the University of Malawi, is the founder and managing director of Namonde Designs, a fashion designing company that specializes in designing clothes, bags, industrial uniforms and other materials.
Sambakusi’s venture begun in 2014 after being laid off from her government job.
“I never imagined that being laid off would be a blessing in disguise because it gave me a push I needed to pursue my dreams and turn my passion into a career,” Sambakusi said.
Today, Namonde Designs is one of the fashion designing companies in the country.
The entreprenuer has also indicated that the company has grown significantly, employing seven full-time employees and dozens of part-time workers.
“The journey over the years has been full of ups and downs but am glad our company has survived that,” said Sambakusi.
She added that her vision is to expand her venture and turn Namonde Designs into a world-renowned brand.
Fashion enthusiast Esther Kaunda based in Lilongwe has praised Namonde Designs labeling it as “a progressive female-owned brand that needs support.”
“I am impressed by Namonde’s dedication to her craft and her commitment to empowering women through her business,” Kaunda said.
