Youths graduate from mHub’s digital training

Technology and innovation centre, mHub, has trained 135 youths in digital skills and entrepreneurship under the Going Beyond Project, equipping them for financial independence.

The four-week training was held Lilongwe Technical College.

Speaking at the event on Thursday, mHub’s Communications and Engagement Officer, Faith Chavula, encouraged young people to embrace entrepreneurship instead of relying on white-collar jobs in the face of high unemployment.

“We collaborated with the Digital Opportunity Trust to equip young people with digital skills and empower youth leaders in their communities to train others. Since the world is going digital, it is essential for our youth to learn these skills to stay relevant in today’s job market,” said Chavula.

She emphasised that many young people in Malawi struggle to access digital skills training, which limits their ability to integrate technology into their businesses.

The Going Beyond Project addresses this challenge by training youth leaders to deliver digital skills training to their peers and conducting sessions in local communities to ensure accessibility.

Guest of honour at the event, Franco Mwachande, Team Leader at Awesome Solutions, applauded mHub for its efforts in empowering young people with digital literacy.

“We are in an era where businesses and careers rely heavily on digital skills. This training will help young people stay connected, improve their businesses, and create employment opportunities,” he said.

Commenting on the development, Lilongwe City Council Youth Officer, Wezie Kamanga, described the training as timely.

One of the participants, Keith Mambo, expressed gratitude for the training, saying he had gained valuable skills in social media marketing.

“At first, I only had basic knowledge, but now I understand how to manage social media platforms and monetise them,” he said.

Through its youth leaders, mHub has trained 946 participants in data analysis, web development and social media marketing, equipping them with the tools needed to thrive in the digital space .
