A Journey of Resilience and Passion at Delight Pictures

For many young people, securing a prestigious job after graduation is a dream. However, with opportunities becoming scarcer, entrepreneurship is now the frontier for ambitious individuals seeking to make their mark.

One such individual is Elton Chiumbuzo, a 27-year-old entrepreneur from Jimu Village in Traditional Authority Chikowi, Zomba, who has turned his passion into a flourishing business.

Elton is the founder of Delight Pictures, a photography and videography company based in Area 18A, Lilongwe.

Established in 2022, the company has quickly risen to prominence in the capital, offering a wide range of services beyond photography, such as event decoration and canvas portraits.

Speaking with ProjectM in an interview he said holding a degree in Human Resource Management from Mulungushi University in Zambia, could not stop him from igniting his passion passion for photography, which began during his time working at Zeeya Creations, another photography company in the same area.

“I got my inspiration for starting this business while working at Zeeya Creations. That experience gave me the knowledge and confidence I needed to take the leap and start my own company,” Elton shared.

Starting his business wasn’t without its challenges. Elton openly acknowledges the difficulties he has faced along the way.

“The journey has been filled with challenges,” he confessed. It requires a lot of effort, sacrifices, and resilience to build a company, especially in today’s economic climate believe that with determination, there’s always a way out with determination”, he said.

What sets Delight Pictures apart in a competitive market is its commitment to excellence and its diversified range of services.

“We are not just another photography company. We aim to be an all-in-one service provider. Meeting our clients’ needs and delivering on time is at the core of our success,” he explained.

From humble beginnings, Delight Pictures has experienced significant growth.

“When we first started, we had very limited resources. But today, we have one of the largest studios in Lilongwe. We own company cars and top-tier equipment, including five modern cameras, ten computers, and two drones. “We’ve also been able to employ over 10 people, creating job opportunities for young people.” he said.

The company’s growth hasn’t gone unnoticed, in 2023, Delight Pictures was honored as one of the best photography and videography companies at the East African Awards.

However, the road hasn’t been smooth. One of the biggest obstacles Elton has faced is the high cost of equipment, much of which has to be imported into Malawi, with added taxes that make it even more expensive.

“The cost of equipment is one of the biggest challenges we face. Most of it comes from abroad, and the taxes make it even harder. I hope the government will consider reviewing these taxes to support local businesses”, he said.

Despite these challenges, Elton’s optimism remains unshaken.

“So far, we’ve had the privilege of working with big brands like Centenary Bank, Unicaf University, Sparc Systems, and Illovo Sugar,”  he explained.
