Ruth Upie Chirwa a 24-year-old fashion designer from Mzuzu, has taken the fashion industry by storm with her unique designs.
Upie, who is the founder and Chief Creative Officer of Upie Collections, has gained a reputation for delivering high-quality, custom-made clothing.
“My brand is built on the principles of quality, exclusivity, and sophistication,and thanks to my customers for trusting my work over the years,” Chirwa explained.
Her impressive career milestones include winning the Mpoto Awards for Best Fashion Designer of the Year in 2024, receiving the Shining Stars Africa Award for Best Female Fashion Designer in 2023, and showcasing her designs at Portugal Fashion Week.
According to Patrick Botha, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Trade and Industry, “Ruth Upie is a shining example of the talent and entrepreneurship that exists in Malawi. We are proud to support her and other young entrepreneurs who are working to build a brighter future for our country.”
Upie acknowledges that her business faces challenges, including limited access to high-quality materials and insufficient workspace.
However, she remains optimistic about her future prospects.
“I am determined to overcome these challenges and achieve my goals,I know that these goals will be achieved,” Chirwa said.
Upie Collections has gained a loyal following among Malawi’s fashion-conscious elite, including celebrities, politicians, and executives who value exclusivity and sophistication.
