Community Impact Engages Communities in Tree Planting Exercise

As one way of taking part in the afforestation drive, Community Impact organization, has emphasized on the importance of planting trees in degraded landscapes to ensure a green and healthier environment for future generations.

Managing Director for the organization Gift Landani, made the revelations in Ndirande, Blantyre yesterday as his organization launched its green initiative aimed at planting 10, 000 trees during the 2024/2025 tree planting exercise in various places in the country including Ndirande hills, a move that will enhance environmental sustainability and combat climate change.

Landani told ProjectM that the effort seeks to rehabilitate the degraded Ndirande hills, with a focus not only by planting trees but also to stop deforestation, reduce greenhouse emissions among others.

“This project underscores our unwavering commitment to environmental conservation. Tree growing stands out as the most effective long-term solutions to combat the climate crisis and mitigate its detrimental impacts on life and livelihoods,” Landani emphasized.

Speaking during the launch, Raph Matumbela, a representative from the forestry department in the area thanked the organization for the tree planting activity which he said will set parameters to deter and prevent soil degradation caused by soil erosion due to the impacts of climate change to say the list.

“This is a good initiative taken by the Community Impact organization and in alignment with this perspective, we encourage all Malawians to embrace the tree planting call and plant more trees to increase the country’s forest cover in order to address critical challenges related to climate change and biodiversity loss,” stated Matumbela.

Community Impact’s dedication to reforestation is not just a milestone, but it is also a testament to the country’s commitment to climate action.
