Blantyre-based Musician Sings for Hope

Blantyre-based renowned gospel musician Allan Chirwa has embarked on a remarkable journey to make a difference in the lives of the vulnerable.

Drawing from his own experience as an orphan, Chirwa has established a foundation operating under the name “Allan Chirwa Foundation”, aimed at providing hope and compassion to the needy.

He has told ProjectM in an interview that growing up without the love and support of parents, he faced challenges that could have easily dampened his spirit.

“Instead of letting these circumstances define me, they shaped me and acted as a catalyst for what I am doing today,” said Chirwa.

He developed a concept to form the foundation in 2018 but only materialised in 2024.

“So, the primary purpose of this foundation is to provide essential services such as food, clothing, shelter and other basic necessities for those forgotten by the society,” said Chirwa.

He added that the organization is also there to provide vocational skills to foster self-reliance.

“I don’t want to raise children or people who will grow accustomed to handouts, but rather people who will value skill attainment,” he added.

Currently, the musician is channelling 20 percent of his earnings in music into the foundation.

The primary focus of the organisation is to assist orphaned children and the elderly.

Child rights activist Blessings Chipalasa has hailed Chirwa for the kind gesture.

“Musicians like him are a rare breed in our society and I hope others will emulate the same,” he said.
