Silver Set for Continental Tourney

Silver Strikers are set to return to Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League Tourney after winning Malawi top-flight TNM Super League.

This was announced during a cocktail the team’s sponsors Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) hosted in honour of their winning 2024 TNM Super League victory

RBM Governor Wilson Banda also said the management of RBM is impressed with the feat

He said: “We are very happy to win the league. It has taken us 11 years to get here and you can imagine how we are over the moon. I am happy for the boys, the club and the fans and players. But we need this to be sustained. Win this year, win next year and win the other year.”

Banda also pledged to continue supporting the club, saying that through the sponsorship, the Central Bank is contributing to the success of the national team.

“By sponsoring Silver Strikers, we are contributing towards the success of the national football team. Most players from the national teams come from Silver, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers. So, if we make Silver a vibrant team it means we are contributing towards football development in the country,” he said.

On the issue of CAF participation, we have no issues with that. We are ready to sponsor, but we want the request so they should write to us formally.

Board chairperson for Silver Strikers Dr Kaudza Masina expressed gratitude to RBM for accepting to buy a new team bus.

“We really need a spacious bus and we made that request and we are happy today that the governor has told us that it’s been already procured. On the issue of CAF participation, we are ready as a team and believe we are up to competition. We are glad that RBM has again approved to support us financially to participate,” he said.

Captain Chikondi Kamanga also thanked RBM for being patient with the club and supporting it despite years of drought in relation to winning the league.
