Agribusiness Graduate Opts for Manufacturing

Lundu Soliat, a 26-year-old Malawi Adventist University graduate, is making waves in the manufacturing sector with his products.

Trading under the banner of Luko Manufacturings, Soliat produces bathing soap and organic hair food using bee farming products.

Soliat’s journey to entrepreneurship began during his secondary school days, when he aspired to be self-employed and running his own company.

Initially, he wanted to pursue a career in clinical medicine, but after being unsuccessful in his application, he turned to Agribusiness Management.

“I studied Agribusiness Management because it was the closest concept to clinical medicine,” Soliat explained.

“But after graduating, I realised that I could still make a positive impact on people’s lives through manufacturing.”

Soliat’s decision to venture into manufacturing was influenced by his desire to create products that would satisfy both luxury and basic needs

He chose to produce soap and hair food because they are essential products that can generate significant revenue.

“Soap is a basic need, and if I can create a product that is effective and good, it will help me generate more money,” said Soliat.

“For hair food, I realised that almost every woman is into hair care, so it seemed like an ideal business opportunity.”

Soliat’s products are made from natural ingredients, including bee honey, ginger, carrots, coconut oil, and olive oil.

However, his business faced a significant setback when thieves stole his bee hives and raw materials.

“Access to raw materials was a big challenge due to the shortage of bee farmers,” Soliat said.

“But I’m determined to continue producing high-quality products that can make a positive impact on people’s lives.”

Despite the challenges, Soliat’s business has had a significant impact on the local economy.

His products are eco-friendly, and he believes that they can help improve agriculture, which is the backbone of Malawi’s economy.

Soliat’s advice to young entrepreneurs is to think innovatively and find solutions to the economic challenges facing the country.

He believes that creativity and problem-solving skills are essential assets in the business world.

“I encourage the youth to be innovative and find ways to solve the economic challenges we’re facing,” said Soliat.

“With determination and hard work, we can create a better future for ourselves and our country.”
