Lilongwe-based inspiring female entrepreneur and innovator, Elizabeth Msomali has managed to achieve financial independence through the production and sale of crystalized urine fertilizer.
The fertilizer has been touted as sustainable and environmentally friendly than traditional chemical fertilizers.
Msomali has told ProjectM in an interview that she begun production of the product late last year after realizing the need to depart from traditional chemical fertilizers.
“After tireless research, experimentation and training, I discovered the potential of crystalized urine Fertilizer and I don’t regret the choice I made,” Msomali said.
She said it’s production process involves the collection of human urine which is then stored in containers.
“The urine is left in the containers for several days and then we add other ingredients which I can not mention here, and then Fertilizer crystals are formed,” said Msomali.
Trials conducted last year consistently show that the innovative Fertilizer is more effective and reliable than traditional chemical fertilizers.
Through the sale of the product, Msomali is able to assist her husband in the day to day running of affairs at home.
“My husband who works as a piece worker has now recognized the independence that comes with entreprenuership,” She added.
Currently, the Fertilizer is being sold within her area with plans to expand reach in the near future.
Agricultural expert and renowned organic farming enthusiast, Maloto Chimkombero has hailed Msomali for her product.
“It’s good that Malawians are now realizing the need to depart from the use of chemical fertilizers and it’s even better that people are making money through production of organic fertilizers,” said Chimkombero.
