A 25-year-old University graduate Chisomo Chiligo has turned his passion for technology into a thriving business.
Chiligo, who holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Engineering from DMI. St. John the Baptist University, has found success as a freelance web designer and developer.
“I spent most of my university time developing websites and apps for my seniors and other people, even though it was at a lower price,” Chiligo said.
“But it was a great way to gain experience and build my portfolio.”
After graduating, Chiligo decided to take his freelancing career to the next level. He started working on a project called Xenia App, which is set to be launched soon.
He also works as a contractor in hospitals, installing medical equipment and offering maintenance services.
“I have worked in over 25 hospitals, and I’ve also helped companies and individuals with IT services, automating processes and creating products that are feasible in their business environment,” Chiligo said.
“I make enough money to make ends meet and save something for my next venture.”
Chiligo’s passion for technology has driven him to succeed in the competitive world of freelancing.
He believes that his ability to think creatively and come up with innovative solutions has been key to his success.
However, Chiligo also faces challenges as a freelancer.
One of the biggest challenges he faces is getting paid on time, especially when working with clients from outside the country.
“Sometimes you can go a month without securing a gig, and in this case, you need to be conservative if you don’t have anywhere to get money,” Chiligo said.
“Malawian clients can also be extremely hard to work with when it comes to making payments.”
Despite the challenges, Chiligo remains optimistic about his future.
He plans to venture into manufacturing and establish a hub that will create competitive products that can be sold across the world.
“My passion is to make a lasting impact in my community, and I believe that technology and innovation can help me achieve that,” Chiligo said.
