EMPOWERING YOUTH THROUGH MEDIA: THE DAWN OF MBC 2 ON THE GO

Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) on November 21 made a bold statement about the power of media to transform lives when it launched MBC TV2 on the Go.

With the official launch of MBC 2 on the Go, a channel tailored for youth and entertainment, the airwaves in Malawi gained a new pulse driven by the dreams and voices of young people.

For three years, MBC 2 on the Go had been building momentum, experimenting with ways to resonate with a vibrant audience hungry for representation.

Its official launch, strategically aligned with World Television Day, sent a clear message of Malawi’s youth being at the forefront of innovation and creativity.

“MBC TV 1 has been an important part of our national identity said the Minister of Information, Moses Kunkuyu, during the launch.

“But it could not fully address the diverse interests of our youth. So this platform exists to groom talents whether in music, dance, culture, or education,” he added.

The Minister further emphasised professionalism in journalism, urging the MBC team to build credibility through balanced reporting.

“Let your professionalism inspire, not divide,” he reminded.

The launch also showcased MBC’s commitment to enhancing its infrastructure as Board Chairperson Reverend Vasco Kachipapa announced the acquisition of a state-of-the-art Outside Broadcast (OB) van to cover stories from across Malawi.

The OB van symbolises MBC’s promise to connect the rural and urban youth, ensuring no story goes untold. Further plans include the construction of modern offices in Lilongwe’s Area 14.

Reverend Kachipapa stated: “This headquarters will set a new benchmark in broadcasting. It’s a step towards building a media landscape that matches the ambitions of our youth.”

As Malawi takes this bold step forward, MBC 2 on the Go stands as a testament to the connection between media and young people. It is not just a channel but a link between potential and opportunity.

It calls on Malawi’s youth to believe in themselves to showcase their talents, and to redefine the future of entertainment, youth education and social development.

The launch was not merely about cutting ribbons or making speeches. It was about igniting a movement to inspire the next generation of leaders, artists and innovators.
