Blantyre based prolific innovator cum entreprenuer, Owen Makwerusa has been awarded the prestigious Youth Impact and Leadership Award (Health category) at the 2024 National youth summit which ended Wednesday in Lilongwe.
Makwerusa and nine other awardees walked away with k1 million each as a token of appreciation for various breakthroughs in technology and entreprenuership.
Makwerusa, 24, has received recognition for opening a company that specializes in toothpaste and body lotion production.
His company, Sukani Enterprise is on a visionary mission to enhance individual health by harnessing the power of locally available resources.
Speaking to ProjectM, the entreprenuer expressed delight with the award, saying it shows that his innovations are now been recognized.
“I am obviously delighted with this award because it simply shows the positive impact Sukani Enterprise has brought to the nation,” Makwerusa said.
He fended off competition from about 211 innovators and entreprenuers who submitted their nominations.
“Going forward, our company will build on this success and ensure that our products have flooded the market,” said Makwerusa.
Located in Machinjiri, Blantyre, Sukani Enterprise produces and supplies products such as toothpaste, organic hair and skin lotion and activated charcoal powder, each bearing the hallmark of “Sukani”.
