The Centenary Bank has officially opened its branch at Chikwawa boma under the Chikwawa Diocese of Roman Catholic in the district.
The Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Dr. Betcheni Tchereni said the coming of the bank is going to improve the economic status of the rural masses in the Shire Valley.
Speaking to ProjectM, Tchereni said Chikwawa boma had only FDH bank the development which was forcing the communities to travel to Nchalo in order to access other banks services.
“This is going to give chances for the locals to access other banking services such as loans or credits from a shorter distance,” he said.
District Commissioner for Chikwawa, Nardin Kamba hailed the Chikwawa Diocese for bringing the bank in the district.
He said the Centenary Bank is going to curb the long distances the locals used to travel to Nchalo.
“It is going to save some finances people used to spend when travelling to Nchalo,” said the DC.
A resident at Chikwawa boma, Mervis Kamonga said the Centenary Bank has come at the right time as there was only one bank.
“There were always congestions especially month ends at the FDH bank,” said Kamonga.
The opening of the Centenary Bank was witnessed by many officials who included Rt. Rev. Bishop Peter Musikuwa of Chikwawa Diocese, Paramount Chief Lundu just to name but a few.
