Temwa Chawinga has become the first African and first local player to receive the Golden Boot Award in the National Women’s Soccer League in the US.
Chawinga has been awarded the golden boot as she led the chart with 20 goals in 25 matches played.
The Malawian football star is also the record holder with 20 goals in a single season in the history of NSWL.
Within two months after joining the club Chawinga was already a promising player as she scored four goals in the opening months of the season.
Chawinga has also been recognized as the first international player to score against every opponent in a single season in the league.
The deadly striker has also tallied six assists with her team also breaking a record of 57 goals in a season.
In the debut season, Chawinga was named as the best X1 player three times and Player of the month at the beginning of the season.
On October 26, she also led her team to claim the Liga M Feminil Summer Cup against NJ/NY Gotham.
She has also helped her team to set a record of 17 undefeated games in a regular season.
In the last season, she scored 83 goals for 84 games that she played for Wuhan Jianghan University FC in the Chinese Super League in four seasons..
Last year, she also won a golden boot award as top goal scorer in the 2023 Cosafa Women’s Championship.
In 2017-2019, she netted 55 goals for Kvarnsvedens IK in Sweden.
