Ministry of Gender says social protection beneficiaries will be paid through electronic payment the development which is going to save huge sums of money it was spending on logistics.
Chief Social Welfare Officer in the Gender Minister responsible for Social Support Programmes, Natasha Mtiza made the sentiments on Thursday during District Full Council meeting.
She said by the this year the programme has reached out to 26 districts and the remaining two districts will be reached out next year.
Speaking to ProjectM, Mtiza said the e-payment has proven to secured and effective to the beneficiaries in the social protection interventions.
“Many government programs such as Social Cash Transfer (SCT), Climate Smart Enhanced Public Works Programmes (CSEPWP) just to name but a few,” she said.
Nsanje has 7,074 and 20,150 families benefiting from the SCT and CSEPWP respectively.
Meanwhile, government has involved the Standard Bank to be implementing the e-payment through its Unayo service.
Standard Bank Official, Francis Malunga has told the council members that his organisation will provide phones to some beneficiaries who do not have mobile phones which will not be of free.
“The phones are not for free as the beneficiaries will be deducted a reasonable amount till one completes the cost,” he said.
Chief Nyachikadza has hailed the government for the introduction of the e-payment which is going to save time of the communities to wait for officials from the council to come to the area
“Officials sometimes arrive late which makes beneficiaries to wait for a long time,” said the traditional leader.
