The 2024 edition of the Mathumela music festival is scheduled for December 1 at its usual venue, Masintha ground in Lilongwe, the organizers have confirmed.
Mathumela music festival is an annual music celebration which is organized for free by celebrated musician Lulu and his Mathumela band.
In an interview on Tuesday, founder and director of Mathumela music festival and band Lawrence Khwisa (Lulu) said preparations for the festival are underway.
“We are thrilled to announce that we have embarked on preparations for this year’s edition of Mathumela music festival which is slated for December 1 at Masintha ground in Lilongwe. And I am beyond excited to announce that the first act to be unveiled at the festival is none other than my dear friend and all-time favourite rapper Gwamba,” said Khwisa, who is popularly known as Lulu in the music business.
He described Gwamba as one of the talented artists who has a rare music style which does not disappoint.
“Gwamba is one great artist whose lyrics and beats resonate well with the crowd. I have shared the stage with him countless times and I know what he is capable of doing when he is on stage. He is simply a G.O.A.T,” said Lulu.
He said this year’s festival promises goodies with a line-up of hot artists who will be revealed one by one.
“At the heart of Mathumela music festival is the passion to celebrate my music career with the people. It is self expression of gratitude and thanks giving to my fans for their unwavering support towards my music career.
As someone who grew up in Kawale ghetto, I am appreciative to the support which ghetto has given me from day one,” said Lulu.
Lulu said it makes him feel great to reunite with supporters from his ghetto and the surrounding areas during the Mathumela music festival.
He joked: “I don’t want to be a Member of Parliament or President, but I will continue to do a million-dollar performance for my people for free because this is what I love.”
