Rumphi-based youthful entrepreneur Doras Chirambo has launched production of Soya pieces, a Soybean-based product that has become a household staple in both urban and rural Malawi.
Chirambo has already produced a prototype of the product for market testing, with results showing that a lot of people in the district are ready to receive the product.
The product, trading under the brand “Doras Foods”, is being produced by a company called Doras C Investment, a venture owned by Chirambo.
The youthful entrepreneur said she decided to start manufacturing the product after noticing its nutritional value and affordability.
“With the rising cost of living, demand for this soybean-based product has been souring, a development which prompted me to explore potential for production,” said Chirambo.
Although she was non-committal to disclose its production process, Chirambo indicated that the main raw material for the product is soybean.
Doras C Investment soya pieces are expected to help in reducing transportation costs for local traders in Rumphi as they will now be accessing the product locally.
“I also hope this venture will help families around Rumphi access the product conveniently,” said Chirambo.
Her vision is to see the product dominate both the local and international markets.
Agricultural expert and renowned farmer based in Lilongwe, Maloto Chimkombero has hailed Chirambo for introducing the venture, saying it will help local farmers find a reliable market for their soybean.
“This will also support smallholder soybean farmers to find a reliable market as they will not be incurring huge transportation costs to sell their harvests to other districts,” said Chimkombero.
