Founder of First Capital Bank Hitesh Anadkat has made a donation of K74 million towards the Beit Cure Malawi Hospital.
Beit Cure had a shortfall of K210 million with a shortfall of K74 million for children’s orthopedic surgeries.
Aside from the contribution, First Capital Bank also made another significant donation of K50 million ahead of the fundraising dinner.
Speaking in an interview, Anadkat said the contribution is part of Corporate Social Responsibility.
He said: “When the shortfall was announced I reached out to our Kenyan shareholder, Rasik Kantaria who contributed 50 percent towards the needs.
Anadkat said: “I am very happy that our partner met the challenge. As a bank we believe that Beit Cure is hospital that doesn’t meet the needs of Malawi only as it extends its reach to Mozambique as well. Beit Cure is one of the best hospitals in Sub-Saharan Africa and the success cannot go unnoticed,” he said.
In his remarks, Davie Simwenga, Director of Programmes and Development at the hospital hailed FCB for the donation.
“We are very grateful for this gesture. Your support and contribution has made a difference as the children will now have the necessary support. As a hospital, we are committed to providing support to children and we will make sure the resources that have come our way will be used effectively and efficiently.
“The support is timely because with the shortfall almost 80 children’s operations were a t risk of not being conducted and the donation is a full payment of the shortfall,” he explained.
Since its inception in 2000, the hospital has performed over 30,000 surgeries in Malawi and the Sub-Saharan region.
Beit Cure Malawi wants to carry out 2,300 orthopedic surgeries annually.
