In a heartening tale of entrepreneurial spirit and community empowerment, 23- year-old Joyce Namalindi from Mulekuwa Village in Phalombe has transformed her life and inspired fellow girls through her soap-making business.
Joyce’s journey began when she participated in the Enabling Girls Advance (ENGAGE) project, aimed at promoting gender equity, the weekly sessions helped her build confidence, realise her potential, and acquire valuable business skills.
“The ENGAGE project helped me discover my strengths and become an advocate for change in my community, I learned soap-making skills, which have enabled me to support myself and my family,” explained Namalindi.
Joyce’s business has not only improved her own life but also contributed to the well-being of her community, her handmade soaps are on demand in the community and neighboring areas in Phalombe district.
Joyce’s success has inspired other girls in her community to pursue small-scale businesses, promoting independence and preventing early marriage.
“My soaps are healthy and effective, and I’m proud to be helping keep my community safe, I want girls to know they have the power to change their lives, Don’t underestimate yourself you can achieve great.” she said.
Joyce’s entrepreneurial spirit and community leadership have earned her recognition as a role model for girls in Phalombe District.
Meanwhile, one of Joyce’s Customers Agness Chitalo has hailed the soap, saying they it is affordable and has a good fragrance.
“You know life in here is very hard,it’s not simple to buy soap from the shops hence we opt to buy hers as we are also promoting her” concluded Chitalo.
