TEMWA NAMED INTERNATIONAL BODY AMBASSADOR

Malawian female footballer striker based in the United States of America Temwa Chawinga, has become the first Malawian brand ambassador for Fresh water project international (FPI) effective 1 October 2024. 

Temwa has been chosen to represent the project as her life is an example of a person who came from nothing to something referring to her life being born in rural village is now living a beautiful life to the beautiful world stage. 

According to a press statement, signed by Executive Director Heid Rickels, Temwa is an example to be used for less-privileged people as her extraordinary journey of football in women’s professional soccer reflects the strength and resilience that is strive to foster within communities, schools and health centres.

Rickels said the board has believed Temwa’s incredible spirit and passion to support communities with the project’s mission of uplifting communities through clean water and sanitation.

She said she would like to motivate young girls to dream big and move forward. 

“My story isn’t about personal success. It is a proof of what any girl can achieve with hard work and determination,” she said. 

Chawinga is currently playing for Kansas City Current where her electrifying style of play has rocketed her to stardom in Kansas City. 

Her 17 goals this season has made her leading the National Women’s Super League (NWSL) Golden Boot race and within striking distance of setting a league record for regular season goals. Chawinga is just one goal away from matching that record.

Chawinga, who has taken the NWSL by storm, made history in March when she became the first Malawian international to play in the NWSL. Her goal against Angel City March 30 was the first from her. 

Chawinga was recently celebrated for being the fifth player of all time to score 16 goals in a single season.

She was also named player of the month for the month of July.
