A glimmer of hope has emerged as African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved more than US$50 million towards agriculture productivity and commercialisation including procurement of relief maize.
Minister of Finance, Simplex Chithyola Banda disclosed this in New York on Sunday, after President Chakwera held the 2024 Malawi Partners Conference on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
According to the minister, the money will come in separately from 30 million US dollars, 23 million Dollars, and one million US Dollars and it will serve different purposes.
“As the country is still battling with effects of climate change, the money will boost agricultural productivity and provide maize to those who have been affected by hunger,” said Chithyola.
President Dr Lazarus Chakwera met the AFDB group president Dr Akinwumi Adesina together with Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi and other high-level leaders.
Banda said AfDB will empower young people to venture into the agriculture sector.
