The Malawi Communication Regulatory Authority (MACRA) says it has embarked on implementation of the National Address System aimed at allocation addresses to Malawians across the country at a tune of $25 million dollars.
Director for Postal Services and E-commerce for MACRA, Kondwani Katchika said in Chikwawa during an awareness meeting with stakeholders on the project.
He told ProjectM that MACRA had a pilot project in Blantyre in 2016 which was successful; hence, the implementation of the National Address System in the district.
“We are going to reach out to 4 million households across the country,” he said.
However, Katchika said MACRA is facing financial challenges affecting the project.
In his remarks, Chikwawa District Council Chairperson, Martin Goche hailed MACRA for bringing the project to the district.
He said the National Address System will be assisting in the identification of the communities in their locations.
On this point, the chair appealed to the stakeholders to discriminate the information about the project in their respective areas in the district.
“Let us inform the locals so that they too should understand the project for them to embrace it,” said Goche.
