MALAWIAN ENTREPRENUER IN RWANDA FOR FOOD FORUM SUMMIT

One of the country’s passionate food scientist, food products development specialist and entrepreneurs Tisunge Phiri is in Kigali, Rwanda where she is representing Malawi in this year’s Africa Food Systems (AFS) forum summit.

The summit, scheduled for 2 to 6 September, has been convened to answer food challenges rocking African countries.

A statement released by the Rwandan government has indicated that, through the summit, participants will be tasked with the process of identifying opportunities and finding lasting solutions that will ensure that the African continent thrives economically.

“We want governments, policymakers, entrepreneurs, academia and farmers to share lessons, discuss progress and share investment opportunities that have the biggest potential to accelerate food systems transformation in Africa,” the statement said.

The statement further says with only six years left to reach the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), transforming African food systems stands as a paramount task.

“The summit is also essential in ensuring food security and fostering job opportunities particularly for the youth and women on the continent,” said the statement.

On her part, Phiri who is the owner of Creamy Dream Enterprise located in Likuni, Lilongwe has said the forum will give her an opportunity to explore potential markets.

“I believe this an opportunity for me as youthful entrepreneur to showcase what I am capable of,” she said through her Facebook platform.

Other dignitaries from Malawi at the summit include Minister of Youth and Sports, Uchizi Mkandawire.
