NOMADS CHASE SILVER LINING

Yesterday’s TNM Super League matches results left Mighty Mukuru Wanderers to still believe that their once wild chase on Silver Strikers for the title is now within touching distance.

Wanderers did themselves a favour when they grinded a 1-0 victory over hosts Kamuzu Barracks at Civo Stadium with a Lawranze Chaziya goal.

The defender, who missed by a whisker to join DRC giants TP Mazembe recently, headed in the priceless goal.

The result has narrowed the gap with the Central bankers to just six points.

In a post-match interview, Wanderers carateker coach Meck Mwase conceded that they were under pressure.

“We are very happy to have collected the three points. It wasn’t an easy game, but the boys worked hard to win. The race is on, but we are taking one game at a time. Anything can happen in football,” he said.

His counterpart, Charles Kamanga conceded second best to the Lali Lubani Road boys.

“We didn’t play well. We struggled a lot. I must congratulate Wanderers. They played well and deserved to win. It just wasn’t our day,” he said.

On the other hand, league leaders’ came from behind to force a 1-1 draw against a determined Chitipa United.

Silver put themselves on the back foot when they succumbed to pressure to concede a penalty which Rajab Ntafu made no mistake to convert.

Silver puffed and huffed for an equaliser which never came until recess. Silver breathed a sigh of relief when Charles Chipala salvaged an all-important result to settle for the draw.

Speaking in the post-match interview, Silver coach Peter Mponda said collecting one point away is not a bad result.

“Chitipa pushed to win the game, but we denied them and managed to get one point. I must commend the boys for working hard to force a draw.

Chitipa Christopher Nyambose said he was disappointed with the draw because they played well.

“Silver did not play well. It’s unfortunate that my players made simple mistakes that gave Silver the equaliser,” he said.
