CHAKWERA, NYUSI OPEN 20TH MALAWI AGRICULTURE FAIR

President Lazarus Chakwera has pledged to continue securing continental markets for Malawi’s agricultural produce aiming at boosting the country’s economy through increased exports.

Chakwera made this commitment when he presided over the official opening of the 20th National Agriculture Fair at Chichiri Trade Fair Grounds in Blantyre on Thursday.

He said his administration has established international cooperation with neighbouring countries and beyond, resulting in trade agreements that will benefit his government, citing his recent trip to Germany as an example of these efforts.

The Malawi leader highlighted the mutual agreement between Malawi and Mozambique, which he said will facilitate bilateral trade as evidenced by the recent transportation of diesel from Mozambique to Malawi by train.

Making his contributions, Mozambican President Filipi Nyusi acknowledged the partnership between Malawi and Mozambique in various development activities, including the sharing of electricity and the utilisation of the Nacala Port for Malawi’s benefit.

He has also held President Chakwera for the crucial role he played when he was the Chairperson of SADC for his relentless efforts aimed at restoring peace at Cabo Delgado in Mozambique, which was under heavy attack by the insurgents.

Those involved in manufacturing, crop and livestock farming are some of the exhibitors who stand at the threshold of a momentous occasion to showcase their agricultural products and services at the show.

According to organisers of the event, Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI), the event will provide unique opportunities for participants to showcase their products and services to a targeted audience of industry professionals, stakeholders, and potential customers as this will be an exciting venue for local and international exhibitors in manufacturing, Technology, financial services and Agriculture to learn about business adaptation, innovation and survival with opportunities to explore and obtain essential products and services.

This year’s agricultural show, themed “Driving Towards Export-oriented Agriculture Through Commercialisation and Innovation”, has seen a significant increase with over 131 pavilions to be occupied by exhibitors, which is higher as compared to 116 pavilions that were occupied during the same period last year.

Some of the organizations that are taking part in this event are Ministry of Agriculture, Malawi Watershed Services Improvement (MWASIP) Project, Agricultural Commodity Exchange for Agriculture, ACE Africa, Agricultural Commercialization (AGCOM) Project, and many more.
