Organisers of this year’s Karonga-Chitipa cultural festival have announced that the function will take place from the 18 to 19 October 2024 at Mbande Hills in Karonga district.
General Secretary for Karonga-Chitipa Cultural Heritage Association, Ndongolera Mwangupiri confirmed about the development, saying the committee tasked with the process of organising the function will release details, including the budget.
“We will soon go on the ground to solicit funds from well-wishers including organizations for us to have a colourful event,” he said.
This year, the festival will be held under the theme “Unity in diversity-Respect and justice for all”.
“As usual, this year’s event will feature activities such as traditional dances, showcasing of local cuisines and unique dressing of the Karonga and Chitipa people,” said Mwangupiri.
Organisers of the event have further called on the people of the two districts to patronize the event, saying it is vital in fostering unity.
“Our traditional leaders and other renowned people in the society will be there which makes it vital for everyone else to be there as well,” he added.
The inaugural Karonga-Chitipa Cultural Festival was held in October 2022 and attracted guests including President Lazarus Chakwera, Late former Vice President Saulos Chilima, chiefs from within the country and a good number of foreign dignitaries.
