MACRA TO CONSTRUCT ICT LAB AT PHOKERA CDSS IN NSANJE

In a bid to reach out to the rural communities with internet services the Malawi Communication Regulatory Authority (MACRA) will construct an Information Communication Technology (ICT) lab at Phokera Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) in Nsanje.

MACRA said the lab will address the gap of knowledge between the urban and rural areas to access internet services.

Head of Information Technology at MACRA, Steven Perete said this during the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of ICT lab at the institution.

He said MACRA’s survey revealed that the rural areas are lacking access to internet services than urban areas in the country.

Speaking to ProjectM, Perete said the coming of the lab is going to reduce the gap of lack of knowledge in computers.

“ICT lab is not going to benefit students alone but also the surrounding communities,” said the head of IT.

He has assured the local community that the villages around Phokera CDSS will have a free access to internet services in the radius of one hundred metres.

Senior GroupVillageHeadman Mnembe has promised to take care of the infrastructure.

“It is our property and there is a need for the communities to take full care of it,” he said.

MACRA will establish 73 ICT labs across the country in the first phase of the Connect A School Project.
