MOFOLO URGES YOUTHS TO VENTURE INTO ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Amid calls for Youthful graduates to use knowledge acquired in school to venture into entrepreneurship, 24 year-old Folomina Mofolo has followed the advice by opening a farm in Zomba.

Folomina, a Science and Environmental science graduate from the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) opened her farm soon after graduating in 2022.

Currently, her farm supplies agricultural products such as Rice, Beans, Potatoes and vegetables to people around Zomba.

Folomina has told ProjectM in an interview that she does not see any reason to search for formal employment, saying her business is paying her well.

“Currently, I don’t crave for formal employment because my focus is on developing my farm and employing permanent farm workers,” Folomina said.

Through profits obtained from farming, Folomina has also managed to diversify her business by opening a shop which sells groceries and processed goods from her farm.

“The expertise obtained from school has really helped me because all I am doing is applying the knowledge obtained from school on the ground,” said Folomina.

Folomina’s wish is to see her farm expand into a Mega-farm, capable of supplying farm products to customers both locally and internationally.

Her exploits have also attracted the interest of the ministry of trade and industry which through its spokesperson Patrick Botha has advised her to embrace value addition to maximize her profits.
